Designing Within a 32-Layer Limit
Use a deliberate layer budget and shape reuse to build complex-looking emblems efficiently.
Write a layer budget first
Before drawing, assign a maximum count to each part. A practical plan is 4 layers for the frame, 12 for the subject, 8 for shadows and highlights, and 8 held in reserve.
Let negative space do work
A gap between two shapes can describe an eye, mouth, or separation line without consuming another layer. Negative space is especially effective in masks and animal heads.
Reuse geometry
Duplicate, flip, and recolor existing shapes instead of searching for a new primitive. Reused angles create visual rhythm and make the emblem feel like one system.
Merge before adding
When the layer count becomes tight, look for adjacent shapes with the same color and visual role. Replace them with one larger polygon where possible. Keep the final two layers free for export corrections.
